Not to jinx myself (for the part of me who believes in the power of jinxing matters), but I work with the nicest, most supportive people I've ever worked with in my life. When one person gets thrown under the bus, I swear it's like a family matter over here. Such a feeling of well-being.

  1. So... if you didn't work somewhere that people routinely get thrown under the bus, would you still feel bonded to your coworkers?

A year or so ago, when I was still at the big blue U, I came up with a couple of awards. We had a little diecast airplane for the "Air Freight Kate" award. Then there was the firetruck, complete with theme music, for the "Fire Fight" award. And last, but probably most important, we had a little school bus complete with two or three 'people'. It played a little verse of "the wheels of the bus" when you pushed a button. It was the "Under the Bus" award.

You were supposed to pass these around to whichever member of the department had most recently had a fire fight, an air freight situation or been thrown under the bus.

The second recipient of the "Under the Bus" award pulled all the people out and set the bus on top of the pile of figures. I guess he was just saying that really the whole department had been thrown under the bus.

    Aww.. I miss those guys.
